bumped to stable on x86 due to broken parts in 3.6.x as well as
positive feedback from users and testing. Earlier tiff versions
have issues with faxing, and the 3.7.0 release has several other
  changes:
    1) lzw compression is now integrated (no more patant issues)
so the local USE flag has been removed
    2) the intall-private option is gone (please file an upstream
bug if you need it) and the extra headers have changed. The
private USE flag will remain for now.
    3) fax conversions work correctly !!!
